CONEV DRC is an environmental nongovernmental organization incorporated under Congolese law, officially registered under number F.92/58.436.
Our primary mission is toconservation of biodiversity and protection of fragile ecosystems in the Congo Basin, with a particular scientific focus on the study and preservation of Amphibian Species (Frogs and Toads), de véritables sentinelles écologiques de la santé de nos forêts et de nos cours d’eau.
CONEV DRC is the one and only nongovernmental organization in Democratic Republic of the Congo dedicated exclusively to scientific research and the protection of amphibians and their ecosystems.
While most initiatives focus on megafauna (large mammals), we are filling a critical scientific and ecological gap by protecting the most vulnerable and overlooked species in the Congo Basin, making our organization the leading national authority on field herpetology.
In Moanda, the mangroves form a dense natural barrier of trees (mangroves) that break the force of the waves. Elles protègent les habitants des tempêtes, limitent la montée des eaux et constituent des zones vitales de biodiversité marine.
Amphibians are key bioindicators. Because of their permeable skin and dual life cycle (aquatic and terrestrial), they are the first to be affected by climate change, pollution, and habitat degradation. Protecting amphibians means monitoring the overall health of the entire Congo Basin ecosystem in real time and preserving dozens of other species that share their habitat.
We structure our activities around three fundamental pillars :
Scientific Research & Monitoring : Species surveys, habitat mapping, and herpetological monitoring in the field (particularly in Mont-Ngafula, Kwilu-Ngongo, and Bikoro).
Community Conservation : Direct involvement of local communities and Amphibian Conservation Brigades (men, women, and youth) in the sustainable management of resources and habitat restoration.
Environmental Education & Advocacy : Environmental awareness campaigns to change the way the public and decision-makers view local wildlife.

The BCA are our field operations units. They recruit and train members of the local communities—from which they originate—in basic herpetological monitoring techniques, efforts to combat deforestation, and wetland restoration.
This is our model for participatory conservation: giving communities the tools to become the primary guardians of their biodiversity.
No, the BCA are an exclusive innovation unique to CONEV DRC. Nowhere else does such a terrain structure exist.
We created and formalized this pioneering model to empower members of local communities (particularly in Bikoro, Kwilu-Ngongo and Mont-Ngafula) into true herpetological field technicians. These citizen-scientist teams are specifically trained in monitoring and tracking amphibians and in wetland restoration—an absolute first in Central Africa.
Our programs are based on rigorous research protocols and benefit from close collaboration with renowned experts from the scientific and herpetological communities in the DRC. This combination of academic knowledge and field expertise ensures the reliability of the data we collect.
Financial transparency is at the heart of our governance. Every contribution directly funds our field projects and the equipment for Brigades de Conservation (BCA), scientific research, and the development of sustainable economic alternatives for local communities.
